Recap: 115th Oregon Amateur Championship, Day 4

By Oregon Golf Association

Match play continued on Thursday with a full slate of matches across the morning and afternoon. At this point in the championship, fatigue starts to become a factor as the hilly course combined with temperatures in the 80s challenges both the physical and mental strength of the competitors. Course knowledge seems to be a factor as players who play OLCC frequently continue to play well. Onto the recap...

Women's Round of 16:

- Top remaining seed, Monica Vaughn Fisher, fell to Hannah Swanson 4&3. The 2010 Oregon Women's Amateur Champion and reigning Oregon Women's Mid-Am Champion won five holes, but ultimately it wasn't enough as Swanson continued her strong play on Thursday.

- Defending champ Kyra Ly and sister Kate Ly both advanced into the round of 16. If they both win their quarterfinal match, they would meet in the semis.

- Good friends Gretchen Johnson and Amanda Jacobs faced off with Johnson winning 6&5. Johnson jumped out to an early 3up through 3 lead and extended the lead to 5up through 8 before closing the match on the 13th hole.

Men's Round of 32:

- Medalist Adam Harrington continued his torrid play defeating Mason Bonn 6&5, also ending his match on the 13th hole.

- Nilay Naik defeated #5 seed and former Oregon Amateur Champ Robbie Ziegler, holding onto a 1up win on the 18th hole.

Men's Round of 16:

- OLCC Member Landon Banks leaned heavily on course knowledge and did not lose a hole as he cruised to an 8&6 win over Calvin Green

- Collin Hodgkinson and Naoki Easterday both won their matches 5&4 to conserve some energy for Friday's matches.

The Quarterfinals and Semifinals continue on Friday with the top 16 players in each bracket hoping to raise the trophy at the end of the long and grueling week.
