96th Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur: Sevren Quinn and Madeleine Conser Claim Back-to-Back Championships

The 96th Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur Championship has crowned its champions at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club's Ghost Creek Course in North Plains, Oregon. After a week of outstanding junior golf, Sevren Quinn captured back-to-back titles in the Boy's Open Division and Madeleine Conser claimed her second consecutive Girl's Open Division championship. Here's a look back at the match play action from start to finish.

Boy's Open Division
Round of 32:

The top seeds made their presence felt early. Medalist Christian Harlow advanced with a 5&4 victory over Liam Hibbard, pulling away with wins on the 11th, 12th, and 14th holes. #2 seed and defending champion Sevren Quinn was equally dominant, building a 4-up lead heading to the back nine before closing out Cooper Anderson on the 15th hole for a 5&3 victory.

The only seeding upset of the round came from #21 seed Cisse Noriyasu, who dispatched Moses Haddad with a 2&1 victory to advance to the Round of 16.

Round of 16:
The Round of 16 delivered the upsets and drama that match play is known for.

The headline result was #16 seed Luke Sidhu taking down medalist and #1 seed Christian Harlow with a 2&1 victory. Sidhu never trailed, taking the lead on the 2nd hole and building it to 3-up at the turn. Harlow fought back on the back nine, trimming the deficit to 1-down through 12 holes, but Sidhu responded with wins on the 15th and 17th to secure his spot in the quarterfinals.

Defending champion Sevren Quinn survived a scare of his own. #15 seed Bryden Ditty had Quinn 1-down through 15 holes before Quinn dug deep, birdieing the final three holes of the match to flip the result and advance with a 2-up victory.

#5 seed Carson Krauss and #21 seed Cisse Noriyasu played one of the most entertaining matches of the round. Noriyasu led by 2-up through six holes, but neither player held more than a 1-up lead after that point. The back-and-forth battle carried all the way to the 18th hole, where Krauss made par to take the 1-up victory.

The longest match of the event went the distance and then some as #14 seed Kenton Docktor defeated #3 seed Davis Hartwell in 20 holes. Hartwell led by 3-up through five holes before Docktor steadily chipped away, ultimately prevailing on the second extra hole.

Quarterfinals:
#8 seed Guanhao Lu carried the momentum from his 1-up Round of 16 victory into the quarterfinals, defeating #16 seed Luke Sidhu with a 4&2 win. #6 seed Cade McVicker and #14 seed Kenton Docktor traded holes throughout the front nine before McVicker pulled away, winning the 12th, 13th, and 15th holes to close out a 3&2 victory.

Semifinals:
The first semifinal featured #8 seed Guanhao Lu against #5 seed Carson Krauss. Lu jumped out to an early advantage before Krauss bounced back with wins on the 5th, 6th, and 8th holes to take a 1-up lead at the turn. The players traded holes early on the back nine before Krauss pulled clear, winning the 13th and 15th holes to advance with a 3&2 victory.

The second semifinal saw #2 seed Sevren Quinn face #6 seed Cade McVicker. Quinn led by 2-up through four holes before the players went back and forth across the remainder of the front nine, with Quinn holding a 2-up advantage at the turn. Both players continued to trade blows on the back nine, with Quinn winning the 11th and 13th and McVicker answering on the 12th and 14th. Quinn ultimately closed the door on the 16th hole for a 3&2 victory, setting up a title defense in the final.

96th-Jr-Am-Winner-Sevren-QuinnFinal: Quinn Defends His Title

#2 seed Sevren Quinn faced #5 seed Carson Krauss with the championship on the line, and both players delivered a final worthy of the occasion. Each player won just one hole on the front nine, keeping the match level heading to the back nine.

Krauss made his move on the back nine, winning the 11th and 13th holes to take a 2-up lead. Quinn responded with the kind of clutch golf that defines champions, birdieing the 15th, 16th, and 17th holes to flip the match and take a 1-up lead into 18. Both players made par on the final hole, giving Quinn the 1-up victory and back-to-back Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur titles.

Congratulations to both Sevren and Carson on an outstanding week of golf.

Girl's Open Division

Round of 16:
Top seed and defending champion Madeleine Conser picked up right where stroke play qualifying left off, winning the first three holes against #16 seed Brianna Chen and cruising to a 6&5 victory. #2 seed Alyssa Rigby was equally commanding against #15 seed Natalie Edwards, dropping just one hole in the match and winning every hole on the back nine to close out the match on the 13th hole.

Two upsets shook up the bottom half of the bracket. #11 seed Mabel Findley took down #6 seed Layla Sidhu in dominant fashion, building a 5-up lead at the turn before winning two more holes on the back nine to close out the match on the 13th. #14 seed Tess Wilson provided the second upset, knocking off #3 seed Milla Patel in a match that was even through the front nine before Wilson pulled away with wins on the 10th, 11th, and 12th holes to advance with a 4&3 victory.

Quarterfinals:
Conser continued her dominant run with a 6&4 victory over #8 seed Eugene Yi. #2 seed Alyssa Rigby carried a 3-up lead into the back nine against #7 seed Kate Ly, but Ly pushed her all the way to the 18th hole in a terrific match. The competitors halved the final three holes, giving Rigby a hard-earned 1-up victory.

#5 seed Hailey Lim, coming off an 8&6 first-round win, faced a stiff test from #4 seed Kaylie Bae. The match was level heading into the 15th hole before Lim won the 15th and 17th to advance with a 2&1 victory. In the other quarterfinal, Mabel Findley continued her impressive run, winning the first four holes to take a commanding early lead and never looking back, closing out Tess Wilson on the 15th hole for a 5&3 victory.

Semifinals:
Madeleine Conser faced #5 seed Hailey Lim in the first semifinal. Lim put up her strongest fight yet, winning three holes and pushing Conser further than any opponent had to that point in the week. Conser held firm throughout, advancing with a 3&2 victory.

The second semifinal between #2 seed Alyssa Rigby and #11 seed Mabel Findley was decided almost entirely on the front nine. The players traded the first two holes before Rigby won the 5th and 7th to take a 2-up lead. Findley answered by winning the 9th to trail by just 1 at the turn, but the competitors halved every hole on the back nine, giving Rigby a 1-up victory and a spot in the final.

96th-Jr-Am-Winner-Madeleine-ConserFinal: Conser Claims Back-to-Back Titles
In a rematch of both last year's 95th Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur final and this summer's 117th Oregon Amateur Championship, #1 seed Madeleine Conser squared off against #2 seed Alyssa Rigby with the title on the line.

Conser jumped out to a 2-up lead through four holes before Rigby won the 7th to cut the deficit to 1-down. Conser responded immediately, winning both the 8th and 9th holes to take a 3-up lead at the turn. She continued to press her advantage on the back nine, winning the 11th hole to go 4-up and then the 14th to seal a 5&4 victory and back-to-back Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur championships.

Congratulations to both Madeleine and Alyssa for their exceptional play throughout the summer.
