The 116th Oregon Amateur Championship is officially underway following two highly competitive rounds of stroke play qualifying at the picturesque Tualatin Country Club. The field has now been seeded for match play after impressive performances across both the men’s and women’s championships, featuring past champions, up-and-coming stars, and standout individual rounds.
Men's Championship Highlights:
Zach Foushee, the two-time defending champion, once again proved why he’s the player to beat. With rounds of 66 and 70, Foushee earned medalist honors at 8-under par (136), continuing his dominant run at the Oregon Amateur. His consistency and composure have earned him the No. 1 seed heading into match play.
Chasing closely behind is Nilay Naik, the reigning Oregon Junior Amateur Champion. Naik showed poise and fired a back nine 33 to challenge Foushee for the No. 1 seed, finishing qualifying at 7-under total (137), claiming the No. 2 seed.
The most electric round came from Dan Huddleston, who carded a sizzling 7-under 65 in Round 2, the lowest single round of the tournament. Featuring eight birdies and just one blemish on the card, his surge secured the No. 3 seed and set the tone for the drama of match play to come.
Women's Championship Highlights:
Tong An dominated qualifying from start to finish. As the only player to post a round under par, her scores of 69 and 70 (139 total) gave her a commanding seven-shot lead and the No. 1 seed.
Gretchen Johnson, a 2023 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur semifinalist, secured the No. 2 seed with solid rounds of 74 and 72 (146 total). Johnson's steady play and experience make her a serious contender for the title.
2023 Oregon Amateur Champion Kyra Ly rounds out the top three. With rounds of 72 and 75 (147 total), Ly will look to lean on her match play success as we move into the later rounds.
