Stroke Play Recap: 94th Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur

Written by Oregon Golf Association | Jun 26, 2024 7:56:26 PM

The 94th Bob Norquist Oregon Junior Amateur is underway at Portland Golf Club and stroke play qualifying is complete. PGC recently completed a golf course renovation, led by architect Dan Hixson, and conditions are ideal for a terrific competition as we move into match play. The weather has been warm and sunny, so expect the greens to become increasingly firm and fast throughout the course of the championship. As this is a USGA exemption event, the winners will earn an exemption into either the 76th U.S. Junior Amateur at Oakland Hills or the 75th U.S. Girls' Junior Amateur at El Caballero CC.

Additionally, the OGA would like to thank Portland Golf Club as it continues its storied history of hosting prestigious tournaments, especially those for Juniors. Onto the recap...

Notables:

- Earning boys medalist honors at 5-under (139 total) was Jack Harrington (Class of 2025). Harrington is a member at PGC and continued his strong play from the 115th Oregon Amateur Championship where he advanced to the round of 32 at Oswego Lake Country Club. Medalist honors must run in the family as Jack's dad, Adam, was the men's medalist at OLCC last week.

- Defending champ Grady Millar (Class of 2025) completed stroke play qualifying with rounds of 77 and 74 to finish +7 and earn the #21 seed into match play.

- Earning girls medalist honors and continuing her strong play in OGA events was Madeleine Conser (Class of 2027). With back to back rounds of 73 (+2, 146 total), Conser finished qualifying a whopping eight strokes over her nearest competitor, Erika Kobayashi (Class of 2025).

Round 1 of match play is underway all qualified competitors teeing it up on Wednesday at PGC.
