The Oregon Golf Association will host the 114th playing of the Oregon Amateur Championship June 19-24 at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club - Witch Hollow in North Plains. The 2023 men’s field features 120 players, including defending champion Tye Gabriel of Portland. The women’s field includes 35 players, including defending champion Victoria Gailey of Tigard.
KEY LINKS:
Both the men and women compete in 36 holes of stroke play qualifying on Monday and Tuesday, which will determine the low 64 qualifiers for the men and the low 32 qualifiers for the women. If necessary, a playoff will be held for the last spot into match play or medalist.
Round one of match play begins Wednesday, June 21. The men’s division plays rounds two and three on Thursday, the quarterfinal and semifinal matches on Friday, and the 36-hole final match on Saturday.
There are five former Oregon Am champions in the men's field: Tye Gabriel (2022 – Willamette Valley CC), Spencer Tibbits (2019 – Portland GC), Robbie Ziegler (2018 – Bend GC), Connor Barr (2016 – Black Butte Glaze Meadow) and Jack Dukeminier (2011 – Waverley CC). Gabriel is seeking to become the first men's player to win back-to-back Oregon Am titles since Nick Chianello accomplished the feat in 2012 and 2013.
Victoria Gailey (2022 – Willamette Valley CC), Amanda Jacobs (2020 – Columbia Edgewater CC), and Kate Harper (2008 – Bend GC) are the three former champions in the women’s field.
Additionally, the 40th Oregon Senior Women’s Amateur Championship will also be played at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club, with that competition scheduled to take place June 21-24. It includes one stroke play qualifying round, followed by three rounds of match play.
Leading that field is the six-time defending champion, Lara Tennant, who is looking to add a seventh title in as many years. Tennant’s 2022 victory tied Joan Edwards-Powell as the only other competitor with six titles (1997, 1998, 1999, 2006, 2008, 2009).
Live scoring, photos and summaries will be available at OGA.org throughout the week.
