2026 OGA Awards: Honoring the People and Places Behind Oregon Golf

Written by Oregon Golf Association | Oct 28, 2026, 4:43:59 AM

Since 2004, the Oregon Golf Association (OGA) has proudly recognized individuals and facilities whose service and dedication exemplify the spirit of the game. Few embody that spirit more than the OGA’s volunteers. Nothing the association does would be possible without their help, whether at championships and events, in the course rating department, or as handicap chairs at member clubs. This year, OGA volunteers contributed more than 13,000 hours, an unbelievable commitment to golf in Oregon.

The OGA celebrated these contributions at both the 2026 OGA Volunteer Appreciation Day at Eugene Country Club and the OGA Annual Meeting at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club, where this year’s awards honored the volunteers who have gone above and beyond in their dedication to the association, along with the 2026 OGA Facility of the Year. Congratulations to all our honorees, and thank you for your continued commitment to the game.

Bill Worden Volunteer of the Year Award - John Brown

This year, the Bill Worden Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to John Brown, a longtime leader in the OGA’s Course Rating department. Over many years of service, John has played a pivotal role in the Course Rating program, helping ensure that courses across Oregon are rated accurately and consistently. His dedication, experience, and steady commitment to the work exemplify the spirit of volunteerism within the OGA.

OGA TAG Team - Karen Govier

OGA TAG Team  - Chrissy Davis

The OGA also recognized Karen Govier and Chrissy Davis for their exemplary service as members of the OGA TAG Team this year. Karen has volunteered with the OGA for almost 10 years and recently began serving as a Rules Official. Her passion for supporting amateur golf in Oregon is a testament to what makes the OGA so special. Chrissy is in her second year with the OGA and brings an unparalleled passion for the Rules of Golf and for junior golf. She volunteered at 34 events this year, contributing 285 hours of service. Despite living in Florence, she makes a real effort to be involved in OGA junior golf programs, helping ensure the future of the game is headed in the right direction. The OGA extends its sincere gratitude to both Karen and Chrissy for their outstanding service in 2026.

These awards recognize the exceptional dedication and commitment of OGA volunteers, whose efforts inspire others and foster a vibrant, inclusive golf community.

OGA Co-Handicap Chair of the Year: Doug Banks & Dianna Richard, Royal Oaks Country Club

This season, we are happy to honor a dynamic duo as our Co-Handicap Chairs of the Year: Doug Banks and Dianna Richard of Royal Oaks Country Club.

Both Doug and Dianna have been playing golf for over 30 years, so they understand what a fair handicap means to those who rely on the system. After the previous Handicap Committee created a great foundation at ROCC, Doug and Dianna took the reins and have been building on that success for over a decade. Their hard work and selfless service have improved the handicapping culture at their club. They’ve developed solid, respected policies, and they’ve earned the strong support of their Pro Shop.

Head Golf Professional Scott Leritz shared his congratulations: “Doug and Dianna’s work helps members compete with confidence and supports an enjoyable golf experience at Royal Oaks. As our golf professional, I sincerely appreciate their partnership and willingness to serve their fellow members. Doug and Dianna’s contributions are deeply valued, and it is a pleasure to see their service recognized by the Oregon Golf Association.”

OGA Member of the Year: Jim Pliska, Emerald Valley Golf Club

It is a privilege to recognize Jim Pliska as the 2026 OGA Member of the Year. Through his ownership of Emerald Valley Golf Club and Wine Valley Golf Club, Jim has consistently invested in the game by providing outstanding venues for amateur championships, junior events, and competitive opportunities for golfers throughout the region. His contributions reflect a genuine passion for growing the game and ensuring that the Northwest remains a special place to play, compete, and connect through golf.

Just as importantly, Jim’s generosity helps build the future of our game. His three-year commitment to Junior Major Sponsorship, his role as presenting sponsor of the Just Tap It In-vitational alumni event, and his longstanding annual contributions to the Jacobsen Youth Initiative in support of Youth on Course demonstrate his dedication to making golf more accessible to the next generation.

OGA Facility of the Year: Willamette Valley Country Club

We are proud to recognize Willamette Valley Country Club as the 2026 OGA Facility of the Year. Year after year, the club continues to open its doors in support of golf throughout Oregon, annually hosting an OGA Tour event, a USGA qualifier, and a Junior Winter Series event. That commitment has also included hosting the 2022 Oregon Amateur and, just last year, welcoming OGA volunteers for our annual Volunteer Appreciation Day.

Most recently, when asked to host the Hudson Cup, the staff and membership stepped up without hesitation - a fitting example of Willamette Valley’s willingness to support the game whenever called upon.

That commitment extends well beyond hosting events. Willamette Valley is a strong supporter of junior golf, the Evans Cup, and charitable efforts throughout Oregon, while its leadership continues to serve the golf industry at both the state and regional level. For its commitment to championship golf, service to the industry, and continued support of the game, it is our honor to recognize Willamette Valley Country Club as the 2026 OGA Facility of the Year. Congratulations to the entire Willamette Valley team and membership and thank you for all you do for golf in Oregon.

Congratulations once again to John Brown, Karen Govier, Chrissy Davis, Doug Banks, Dianna Richard, Jim Pliska, and Willamette Valley Country Club. Whether through countless hours on the course, a steady commitment to fair play, or generous support of the next generation, each of this year’s honorees has helped make Oregon golf a place where everyone can play, compete, and belong.
